Starting a live session with your band

The live session is the heart of Rally. One tap and your entire band sees the same setlist, on the same song, in real-time. Here’s how it works.

Before you begin

Make sure you have the following ready:

• A setlist with songs (see our guide for your first setlist)
• Your band members are invited and have an account
• Everyone has a device with a browser (iPad, iPhone, laptop — doesn’t matter)

Step 1: Open your setlist

Go to Setlists and open the setlist you want to play. This is the setlist your entire band will see during the session.

Step 2: Start the live session

Tap the Live button. The session starts immediately. You’ll see a fullscreen view of your setlist with the first song.

Step 3: Your band joins automatically

Your band members get a notification that a live session is active. They open Rally and are automatically connected to your session. Everyone now sees the same setlist.

Step 4: Navigate through the set

As the band leader, you’re the navigator. Scroll to the next song and every band member’s screen follows automatically. Everyone sees the same song at the same time.

Swipe or tap to navigate through the setlist. The sections (Set 1, Set 2, Encore) are clearly visible.

Step 5: Step out of sync

Does a band member want to look ahead to the next song? They can. They can temporarily step out of sync to navigate on their own. A countdown counts down and then they re-synchronise with the group.

This is handy when the guitarist wants to check the chords for the next song in advance.

Step 6: End the session

After the performance, tap Stop to end the session. Live mode closes and everyone returns to the normal view.

Tips for the stage

• Put your device on a stand — an iPad on a music stand or tablet holder works perfectly
• Use your iPhone as backup — if your iPad goes down, your set is on every device
• Test beforehand — do a quick test with your band before soundcheck
• Offline works too — your set is stored locally, so no wifi is no problem
