Why I built Rally
I’ve been playing stages for years. Not as a developer, but as a musician. From pubs to festivals, from acoustic duos to full bands. And every time the same frustration: the setlist.
Paper doesn’t work on stage
You know the drill. An A4 sheet with the running order, taped to the floor. Until someone spills beer on it. Or the wind takes it. Or you simply forget it at home. As a solo singer it’s annoying — with a full band it’s chaos.
WhatsApp is not a setlist tool
“Hey, are we doing Sweet Caroline third or fourth?” That message at 11:47 PM in the band group chat. Everyone replies with a different answer. By the time you’re on stage, nobody remembers the plan.
Existing apps were missing something
I tried them all. BandHelper, OnSong, various note apps. Some are good — but none did exactly what I needed: the whole band on the same song, on every device, in real-time. Without everyone having to install a separate app. Without everyone paying separately.
So I built it myself
Rally started as a frustration and became a project. Besides being a musician, I’m also a developer, and I wanted to build something that actually works on stage. Not a tool with a hundred features you never use, but something that does what you need. Fast. Reliable. On every screen.
The core principles:
- No installation — open the link, done. Works on iPad, iPhone, laptop, Android.
- Offline-first — no wifi at the venue? Your set is just there.
- Real-time sync — on Club and Mainstage, one band member advances and everyone follows (coming soon).
- One subscription for the whole band — the leader pays on paid tiers; members join free.
Who is Rally for?
Rally is for anyone who performs on stage. Whether you’re a solo singer managing your repertoire, or playing with a full band and need everyone synchronised. Start with Soundcheck — completely free — and grow when you need more.
I believe the best tools are the ones that get out of your way. Rally is built to disappear the moment the music starts.
